Tips from Friends of the Earth
Adding nuts or seeds to your meals is an easy way to give them an interesting new flavour, and they're a valuable source of plant protein too. Crumble or toast, and add to pasta, salads, yoghurt and desserts. Don't forget to compost any shells, except for walnut shells - these contain a chemical called juglone, which can be toxic to some plants.
